Looking to purchase a Used Nissan Altima? Consider this: it was the 4th best selling car in the US in 2014 at 303,313 vehicles sold. This is a fantastic statistic for two reasons. One, it is such a fantastic
car it outsells its segment competition. Two, you are probably not going to have too much trouble finding one in good condition that you will fall in love with.
In addition, the used Nissan Altima has always been a bit of a sleeper that is overshadowed by the Accord and the Camry. Again, if everyone out there is clambering for those name plates, the more for you to choose from! It’s a great used car “alternative.”
The redesigned 2013 Nissan Altima was the perfect example of how to improve an already-great product. This mid size was a winner among all the professional reviewers and there are certainly perfectly fine samples out there to make your own.
There wasn’t much change to the exterior size, customers have been very happy with where the Altima checks in on that, but they did give it a sportier more aggressive look.
The Nissan Altima has always had a quick acceleration and nimble handling with great fuel economy. If it’s a four-cylinder engine, the Altima has tracked 38 mpg on the highway, if you go with the V-6, fuel economy still comes in at a remarkable 32 mpg hwy.
The basic interior dash layout comes with clear gauges, a big easy-to-read LCD screen, and simple climate controls that you can operate without taking your eyes off the road. Nissan designed the front seats using data from a NASA study that determined optimum support points for the human body, and it seems to have worked, because the reviews on these seats have come in extremely positive over the years.
The newer NissanConnect system (since 2013) has features such as hands-free text messaging and Pandora Internet radio. The base-model stereo sounds great while the higher-end systems are easy enough to use and most of the cool functions (such as the ability to send addresses to the navigation system via Google) work independently of your phone.
If you’re looking for something older than 2013, the circa 2012 Nissan Altima Sedan models came in three different trims: 2.5 and 2.5 S, which both are powered by a 175-horsepower, 2.5L 4-cylinder engine; and the 3.5 SR, which gets a 270-hp, 3.5L V6. Both engines come with a continuously variable automatic transmission, but coupes can be had with a choice of the CVT or a 6-speed manual gearbox.
And…if you’re really looking sporty, the Altima is one of the few mid-size sedans to also be offered as a two-door coupe. It isn’t just the same Altima with two fewer doors– the coupe is actually several inches shorter, which lessons rear legroom but does give the coupe an entirely different roofline and a gorgeous, sporty appearance.
